Create a configuration/feature flag

To create a new configuration or feature flag in the RelFast portal, follow the step-by-step instructions below. Please ensure that you have the necessary "Create Configuration" permissions, which are environment-specific, to perform this operation.

Instructions:

  1. Open your web browser and go to the portal: https://relfast.convolute.ai

  2. Log in to the portal using your credentials to access your account.

  3. After logging in, find and click on the "Configurations/Flags" tab in the left navigation bar. This will take you to the section where you can manage configurations and feature flags.

  4. Select the appropriate Project, Environment, and Application from the dropdown menus. If defaults are set, they will be pre-populated for convenience.

  5. Existing configurations and feature flags will be displayed on this page.

  6. To create a new configuration or feature flag, click on the "ADD FLAGS" button.

  7. In the form that appears, fill in the required fields, including Name and Description. Select the configuration type from the dropdown box. Please note that the configuration type cannot be modified later, so choose the appropriate type.

  8. Select the Environment Type to which you want to add the values. You will only see the Environment types defined in your project and the types for which you have access.

  9. Add values to the alternatives. You can define additional alternatives by clicking on the "Add Alternatives" button.

  10. Choose the default alternatives that will be served when the configuration is turned on and when it is off.

  11. If you have access to multiple environments, you can use the "Replicate" button to copy the alternatives across environments. This is useful if the alternatives do not vary based on the environment.

  12. Click on the "Add" button to submit the form. The newly added configuration or feature flag will be available on the configuration landing page.

  13. By default, the configuration will be in the "off" state. Toggle the switch to serve the configuration or enable the feature flag.

  14. For feature flags, they are usually boolean type, meaning they can be either "on" or "off" based on their purpose.

  15. The "Is Secured" switch can be used to store the alternatives at rest in an encrypted vault, providing an extra layer of security for sensitive data.

  16. Ensure that you do not enter any confidential text, PCI (Payment Card Industry) or PII (Personally Identifiable Information) data in the name and description fields of the form. The data is stored in plain text format in the database. The "Is Secured" switch, if turned on, is applicable only for alternative values, not the name or description.

By following these instructions, you can create new configurations or feature flags in the RelFast portal and efficiently manage their values and settings across different environments.
